Journey
Gymnastics was my first love. I joined the sport at three years old, joined the competition team at five years old, and have continued throughout my undergraduate degree. As I became more involved with the gymnastics, I learned about the amazing feats of the human body: recovering from injury, overcoming mental barriers, and completing complex yet precise movements. This led me, naturally, to a my major of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology and the pre-physical therapy track.
Throughout my coursework, I have learned about health disparities and chose to pursue a minor in the field to enhance my understanding of the ways systems and structures in the United States influence individual health. As I approached my third year of college, I realized I hoped to combine my interest in social determinants of health with an interest in physiology and biological sciences.
Studying abroad during Summer 2022 solidified my interest in public health, specifically in global initiatives. In my career, I aim to serve low-resource communities through collaborative initiatives and community-based research, such as in a role as a public health consultant. I will earn a Master of Public Health to achieve these goals.
