  • As the capstone of my Health Disparities in Society minor, I completed a part-time internship with Gainesville Fire Rescue's Community Resource Paramedicine program.​

• HSC4950: Current Topics in Health Education "Alcohol Prevention" (Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience)

  • Through the University Research Scholars Program, I worked on a team of 10 undergraduate students to assist with a faculty-led research project. ​

  • Through several guest speakers and lecturers, I learned basic research principles and the innovation that can occur through interdisciplinary study.​

• CHI1130: Beginning Chinese 1

  • A small way to connect with my culture as a Chinese adoptee, I grasped the basics of my origin country's most common dialect, Mandarin.​​

Unique to the Honors Program, (un)Common Reads courses--denoted by the IDH2930 course code--offered me the chance to learn in-depth about a new subject. 

• IDH2930: The Wonderful World of Non-Profits​​

  • We read The Non-Profit World: Rise of Civil Society and the Rise of the Nonprofit Sector, discussed its themes, and extended the concepts to personal and current examples.​

  • We also completed several case studies on domestic and international non-governmental organizations.

• IDH2930: Illness Literature

  • Through various texts of prose and poetry, we delved into what it means to be "ill" and how we care for those that fit our perception of illness. . We discussed how writers use illnesses as metaphors, themes, and devices in conveying attitudes about health, technology, love, self-worth, society, and the meaning of life.

• IDH2930: Diet to Disease

  • We discussed nutrition as a mechanism for disease prevention, evaluated the benefits and consequences of popular diets in the United States, and considered the role of institutions in individual consumption patterns--including our own.
